Something has shifted in how HR leaders think about benefits and if you've been in the room at any industry event recently, you've probably felt it. It's not about adding more perks. It's about rethinking why we offer them in the first place.

That's exactly the conversation we're looking forward to at Total Rewards Asia Summit 2026 — Singapore's premier conference dedicated to rewards, compensation, and benefits. Tribe Benefits will be there on 1-2 July at Hilton Singapore Orchard, and this year, our founder Shaun Sha will be joining the panel on Day 1.

What's the panel about?

The session is titled: Moving away from an 'entitlement' mentality: Repositioning total rewards as a driver of culture and change.

Here's the honest take: total rewards cannot — and should not — be the sole pillar of your employee value proposition. When benefits become an entitlement rather than a reflection of your culture, they stop doing their job. Employees expect more. Costs climb. And the strategy loses its meaning.

Shaun and the other panellists will be covering:

  • Why benefits should be treated as a hygiene factor rather than a headline promise

  • What it actually takes to challenge long-held assumptions about what employers "must" provide

  • How embedding rewards strategy into people managers' capabilities can reinforce culture while respecting cost, utilisation, and individual choice

It's a conversation that's long overdue, and we think a lot of HR leaders are going to recognise themselves in it.

Why this matters right now

Benefits fatigue is real. Over the past few years, many organisations have layered on perks — wellness allowances, mental health apps, flexible leave — without a clear "why" behind them. The result? Employees who are underwhelmed, and HR teams who feel like they're throwing resources at a problem that never quite gets solved.

At Tribe, we see this pattern often. Companies come to us not just looking for a benefits platform, but for a way to make their benefits strategy actually stick. That's why we believe flexible benefits — when done well — aren't just a tool for cost control or satisfaction scores. They're a way to signal: we trust you to know what matters to you. And that message, when it's genuine, builds culture.

Come find us at the summit

Total Rewards Asia Summit brings together 180+ HR and rewards leaders across two days of sessions, panels, and networking. This year marks the 15th edition, making it the longest-running, most recognised total rewards conference in the region.

If you're attending, we'd love to connect: whether you're rethinking your benefits structure, exploring flexible benefits for the first time, or just want to talk through what's working and what isn't.
